03-24-2004 - Perl for Bioinformatics Short Course- April 27-30 and August 3-6
Perl has become the de-facto language of Bioinformatics. It
allows for simple, flexible programs to handle daily tasks
and also more complicated code for messy situations. This
class offers an introduction to Perl with specific examples
for Bioinformatics programming such as DNA/RNA manipulations,
BLAST/FASTA searches, NCBI/GenBank/SwissProt database searches.
The Perl covered includes basic data types, flow control, and
I/O mechanisms, and string handling. The goal is to provide
bioinformatics researchers enough knowlege of Perl to recognize
it, use existing programs, and make simple modifications to
existing programs. The class does not assume any particular
level of programming knowlege, although experience with at
least one programming language would be helpful.
Class held at Galvin Library at IIT's Main Campus.
